"There is something special about having a meeting in Galveston because the beach town atmosphere and the is- landʼs many attractions really allow you to mix business with pleasure,: said Meg Winchester, director of the Galveston Island CVB. "Galveston is a fun place to be with an affordable price tag when compared to other beach destinations." Meeting planners like Laura Taylor with the Agricultural Science and Technical Teachers of Texas say Galveston is sure to bring in attendees. Taylor said her organization recently held an event in Galveston and it drew in the "best atten- dance in 20 years." She continued, "The teachers felt like they were at a national conference because of the beautiful resort atmosphere and the Galveston Island Convention Center." Paula Sasser-Bigan, director of meetings with Horizon Meetings Inc., also recommends Galveston, especially noting that the CVB is well-suited to working with meeting groups. "Every time I presented them with a challenge, they not only welcomed it but they fixed it in an expedient manner." Heather Hidalgo, CMP, with the Texas Judicial Court Training Center, also shared, "There are more people on our waiting list for the Galveston seminar than any other. They enjoy the variety of great restaurants, and the ease and ability to get around the city, not to mention spending evenings in the hotel pool and walking on the beach." ■ ALABAMA ARKANSAS FLORIDA GEORGIA KENTUCKY LOUISIANA MARYLAND MISSISSIPPI MISSOURI NORTH CAROLINA OKLAHOMA SOUTH CAROLINA TENNESSEE TEXAS VIRGINIA WEST VIRGINIA Galveston, Texas I N S I D E R ' S G U I D E By Debbie Wood Grand Opera House via Facebook Host an event at Galveston's Grand 1894 Opera House.
