The South Beach ACE development team had won the bid to revamp the center and add a hotel; however, the plan was later voted down. Now, city officials plan to restart the bidding process to renovate the convention center without building a new hotel. ■ Grand Opening Held For Owensboro Convention Center OWENSBORO, Ky.—One of the biggest news stories to emerge out of Kentucky in years is the January grand opening of the Owensboro Convention Center, a multipurpose fa- cility managed by Global Spectrum and featuring a 45,000-square-foot exhibit hall and 47,000 square feet of additional meeting space. "We want meeting planners to know Global Spectrum gets it," said Dean Dennis, general manager. "We understand the needs of a meeting planner and made sure the new Owensboro Convention Center has everything, from free Wi-Fi, on-site food and beverage services, advanced technology capabilities, adjacent hotels, flexible meeting spaces, local amenities like attractions and restaurants, and much more—all the things a meeting planner needs to have a successful event." A brand new Hampton Inn and Suites also opened adjacent to the facility. ■ OCC 08-26 CS FEB 2014_Layout 1 2/3/14 11:39 AM Page 9
