Wayne Waters Atlanta, Georgia Atlanta CVB Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Mark Vaughan is proud of a number of recently completed projects in Atlanta. One is the recent opening of a new $1.4 billion international terminal with a concourse at Hartsfield- Jackson that adds12 more gates to the 28 international gates it already boasts. He also mentions Legoland, the family friendly theme park that debuted in Buckhead earlier this year. Major hotel properties also continue to upgrade. "So many of our hotels have invested significant money in major renovations in the past two or three years," he said, "And major properties like the Hyatt Regency, the Omni and others are going through upgrades right now. We have a diverse portfolio of accommoda- tions that are all fresh and ready for hosting meetings. We open our arms to the whole world daily and to convention attendees. Our infrastructure is set up in a way that we can handle multiple meetings and combined with our famous southern hos- pitality many attendees would never feel like there was anybody else in town." ■ 26 ConventionSouth JULY 2012 From downtown to midtown and all around town, the metro Atlanta area is filled with unique gems like Strand Theatre, a noted landmark on historic Marietta Square in Cobb County. www.con v
