Wayne Waters The NASCAR Hall of Fame in downtown Char- lotte is a must see if you want to get an "authentic ex- perience" of North Carolina. Not only are there ample teambuilding and other group activi- ties available, the facility also has five areas with meeting space totaling 60,000 square feet. Charlotte "Charlotteʼs a much different destination than it was 10 years ago," said Bill McMil- lan, senior director of sales at Visit Charlotte. "Smart development and foresight have grown the city, offering new hotels, dining and attractions all within walking distance of the Charlotte Convention Center. If you havenʼt been lately, you should consider seeing for yourselves what spurred a major convention like the 2012 DNC to choose Charlotte. We offer a wealth of cosmopolitan assets ranging from dining to culture to outdoor adventure, while still possessing the Southern hospitality that makes it truly special." Two new restaurants now grace the Queen City: Osso Restaurant & Lounge opened this past December and e2 Emerilʼs Eatery in February this year. Osso Bucco is designed by the renowned Francois Fossard, known internationally for his work at chic eateries like Butter in New York City and Mansion in Miami. The new dinner spot is inside the NC Music Factory in City Center, a designated cultural and residential development area in Charlotteʼs urban core, and will feature Italian food. The restaurant is named after an Italian dish typically made of veal containing mar- rowbone and stewed in wine with vegetables. e2 Emerilʼs Eatery is just two blocks from the Charlotte Convention Center in the Levine Center for the Arts. The newest offering from famed chef Emeril Lagasse, e2 Emerilʼs Eatery serves "Southern delicacies with a twist." The Chefʼs Food Bar in the restaurant seats 18 guests around the border of the open kitchen and wood- burning oven. A street-level patio overlooks the Levine. ■ 40 ConventionSouth APRIL 2012 www.con v entionsouth.com
