Wayne Waters Palm Beach County has shed its boring past by offer- ing several new and exciting entertainment options such as CityPlace. Palm Beach County, Fla. Palm Beach County once had a reputation for being, well, rather dull. But Doug MClain, senior vice president of global sales for the Palm Beach County CVB, said while that may have once been a reasonable statement, it sure isnʼt now! "We always had gorgeous beaches. We always had great meeting facilities. We now have a higher entertainment value," McLain said, pointing to entertainment districts and energized nightlife in places like Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, the "PGA corridor" and Boca Raton. "These areas represent one of the great renaissances in South Florida!" he said. "There is now more than a mile and a half of thriving shops, restaurants and nightlife along Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Our PGA corridor has become truly an entertainment district with the restaurants and nightlife thriving in the PGA Commons area. Downtown Palm Beach Gardens is another little section of the PGA area that now has several hot spots. And Mizner Park to the south around Boca Raton. The whole area has more shopping, dining and nightlife options than ever." McLain said the renaissance has produced an area thatʼs preferable to larger destinations in South Florida but "without the density for easier driving, parking and walking." ■ Mysterious Sculptures In Lush Gardens Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach provides groups with various spaces for special events as well as a rare look at the lifeʼs work of the sculptor. Among the artwork, the gardens contain monumental sculptures built for the gardens, which invoke mystery and surprise as you happen upon them while walking through rare palms. ■ 28 ConventionSouth JUNE 2012 Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens via Facebook
