Tangipahoa Parish, based in Hammond, offers meeting facilities at Southeastern Louisi- ana University and several smaller hotels. There are 1,200 metro area hotel rooms, according to the Tangipahoa Parish CVB. Cajun Coast (Morgan City/Franklin) Louisiana's Cajun Coast area about 30 miles northwest of Houma is aptly named. It sits nearly surrounded by the waters of Lake Palourde, Flat Lake, Atchafalaya River, and the Bayou Shaffer. It's in the section of Louisiana where you'll find entry to the Bayou Teche National Wildlife Area and the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area. Aside from its exceptional waterscape and all the extraordinary outdoor recreational opportuni- ties that go along with it, the Cajun Coast is home to the Wedell Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum and also the International Pe- troleum Museum & Exposition, two of the more unusual museums you're likely to come across. The downtowns of its two most prominent towns, Morgan City and Franklin, offer good shopping and dining, as well. An intriguing area for small meetings, the largest Cajun Coast meeting facility is the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium, which offers about 10,000 square feet of meeting space with a stage. The Clarion Inn in Morgan City can provide more than 7,000 square feet of meeting space, including a nearly 3,000-square-foot ballroom and four other rooms. Nearby Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in Charenton, with about 30,000 square feet of meeting space, bumps up the size of the meeting groups able to take advantage of the Cajun Coast area, while also offering its gaming, dining and live performance enjoyments. Houma About 55 miles southwest of New Orleans, Houma – "Louisiana's Bayou Country" – seems a world away from big-city life. It's a region with mile upon mile of swamps and wetlands, and a joyful Cajun music and food culture. The Terrebonne Folklife Culture Center's mission is to preserve Cajun culture and offers classes in Cajun music, cooking and crafts.
