From sending the invitations to the thank you cards after the event, simple and chic, and fun and festive arrange- ments can enhance any occasion into a picture-perfect and memorable event. Unlike the technology-driven trends that have taken over nearly every aspect of our lives, social events are often being designed with vintage and rustic themes that are inspired by the past. Social events are moving away from lavish and gaudy, and moving toward more simplistic styles such as shabby chic and boho. Events are being inspired by the organic, eco-friendly and do-it-yourself attitudes of Americans today. This is especially reflected on event planning blogs and sites like Pinterest where event décor is more minimal and meaningful—even quirky. For this Creative Issue, here are some popular ideas we've gathered to inspire you when planning your next social event. ■ Table set ups are transitioning from lavish to simple. In this picture at the top, a social event table at the Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport is dressed in an understated yet vibrant manner. Blacks and whites are used as the main colors while pinks are used for that splash of color. ■ Trend Watch: 08-26 CS FEB 2014_Layout 1 1/31/14 3:46 PM Page 22
