Most of the time, my most visionary of ideas come from collaborating with team members and listening to their thoughts as well as their opinions about my ideas. Then again, sometimes I literally need to close the door, remove myself from the world around me and take some distraction-free time to think creatively. And, if I'm still staring away at a blank document on my computer, well, that's when I go on an online research binge. Yes, some- times you have to see what others are doing in order to find inspiration for your own projects. While assisting in the planning of the recent Rendezvous South trade show for convention planners, many of us shared ideas that we had seen at previous events. From this, we took the best ideas to create a more innovative event for our attendees. You may have heard the philoso- phy that "there are no new ideas." I'm not sure if that's entirely true, but I do think that most of the time we are just recreating something that has already been thought of. A word of caution here: don't steal or plagiarize others work, only use it as inspiration for you own ideas. The good news is, many resources out there today want us to copy their ideas. Magazines, blogs and sites like Pinterest are great for researching what other plan- ners are doing with their events and for getting your creative juices flowing. In fact, this Creative Issue is inspired by Pinterest and all the do-it-yourself or user- generated ideas the site offers. In our featured article, you'll find tips and ideas for event décor, set ups, and food and beverage. Many of the tips that we're sharing come from venue reps who are a wonderful resource for ideas. Just as we have for this issue, pick their brains for unique ways to put on your events. We hope this issue inspires you!
