That's right, it's not your father's convention and visitors bureau anymore. CVBs and the convention services personnel that assist you with events say they're more focused on groups and have adapted with the times to become more flexible and on their toes in order to quickly help meet your immediate needs. In a January/February flash poll of CVBs across the South, ConventionSouth found that 35 percent are more focused on groups—over leisure travelers—com- pared to the past two years. Their in- creased focus on group travel comes right on time as nearly 45 percent are expecting this year to bring a rise in meetings and events at a rate of up to 10 percent, while 14 percent are ex- pecting group-based business to rise more than 10 percent this year. In turn, meeting planners are in- creasingly relying on the help of CVBs to plan out their last-minute, tech savvy meetings, according to a survey of more than 100 meeting plan- ners conducted in October 2011.
