2012 Sneak Peek Directory Subscribe CHESAPEAKE Located along the Intracoastal Waterway, Chesapeake is a city rich in history and natural wonders. Groups can rediscover outdoor adventure while navigating 22 miles of fresh and salt waterways. For attendees who want a one-of-a-kind experience, the Chesapeake CVB suggests they paddle the Dismal Swamp Canal where Edgar Allan Poe report- edly penned parts of his famous poem, "The Raven." And, they may spot rare bird species and wildlife along the area's scenic trails. The city's Chesapeake Meeting Campus, located in the city's bustling Greenbrier business district, features 30,000 square feet of meeting space, including the Chesapeake Conference Center, which has a 2.5 million renovation project planned for fiscal year 2012/2013, said Tim Fields, director of sales. "Renovation boards are being prepared as we speak," he said. Recent additions already completed include new carpet throughout the center and the addition of new banquet chairs. The 226-room Norfolk Chesapeake Marriott is adjacent to the center and encom- passes a total of 12,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space, and also including complementary parking. It also has been certified as a Virginia Green hotel. Additional venues include the aloft Chesapeake with 136 guest rooms and 500 square feet of meeting space, as well as the SpringHill Suites with 132 suites and more than 3,000 square feet of meeting space. ■ Showing THE LOVE This oversize LOVE sculpture is on display at the Great Bridge Lock Park in Chesa- peake and is part of a state & local partnership to promote tourism.
