THE WOW ISSUE!
INTRO: Unique Heritage And
History, Amazing Scenery
WOW FACTOR: A Lake Flowing
Through The Downtown
DESCRIPTION: Cane River Lake,
a beautiful, meandering body of water,
flows through downtown Natchitoches
and on into Plantation Country. The 36-
mile river and long, narrow lake carry
remembrances of the past, reflecting on the
Native American, French, Creole, African
American and Anglo cultures that mixed
their traditions and talents even as they
remained distinct. In addition to amazing
scenery, the lake provides many outdoor
recreational opportunities.
WOW PLUS: Creole townhouses and
other centuries-old buildings comprise
Natchitoches' 33-block National Historic
Landmark District. The Cane River
Creole National Historical Park features
Oakland Plantation, and the outbuildings
at Magnolia Plantation, including the
plantation store, the quarters, the overseer's
house, the blacksmith shop, and the
cotton press.
