A new 84-room Hyatt Place, with 1,600 square feet of function space, is set to open in late 2018 in Sandestin. Two regional airports, each about 35 min- utes from South Walton, have added new direct flights, Truemper said: "This opens new markets and makes South Walton even more convenient for meetings and groups." Panama City Beach Situated on 27 miles of sugar-white sand beaches bordering clear, emerald-green waters where the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrew's Bay converge, Panama City Beach had a record-breaking tourism year in 2017, with bed tax collections up more than 13 percent, according to Visit Panama City Beach Presi- dent and CEO Dan Rowe. He cited millions of dollars in accommodations upgrades and new projects by Hilton Worldwide, Marriott Inter- national and InterContinental Hotels Group that are adding to the destination's growing reputation as a Gulf Coast hotspot. "We're excited for all of the development coming to our destination in 2018 and be- yond," he said. "The plans for these new prop- erties and attractions prove that we are moving into a bright future as we celebrate our position as a year-round attraction." Among the new projects underway is a beachfront 200-room Springhill Suites by Marriott, opening this year, which will include a lazy river.
