"Because Greensboro is located in the middle of the state, attendees can easily drive from any direc- tion," said Ava Pope, director of sales for the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau. The city's 135 attractions and its central location on the east coast make the mid-sized city conve- nient for groups from all over the eastern U.S. Additionally, its international airport and location on an Amtrak line provide ample transportation opportunities for people traveling to the area. Because SMERF events include a variety of ages and interests, planners often seek locations with a broad range of entertainment options, making Greensboro a prime destination. From historical battlefields to shopping to museums and recreational offerings, Greensboro literally has something for everyone. Additionally, the city has gained an arena football team, the Carolina Cobras, which will play its inau- gural season this year, and its proximity to five colleges brings a variety of sports offerings to the area. Greensboro also plays host to dozens of festivals each year, which serve as great, inexpensive activi- ties for groups visiting the area. "We offer SMERF groups good rates in a friendly, safe, clean community, with people that are willing to work with them to make sure they have a great meeting," Pope said. "We specialize in Southern hospitality." n A u t h e n t i c M E E T I N G S Garrett Co.
