One top-notch venue for conferences is AMA's Wash- ington Area Conference Center in Arlington, Va., according to O'Donnell. The conference center has a convenient location and includes several internet kiosks located throughout the center for those who need to check e-mail or visit websites, along with Wi-Fi access available throughout the center. To ensure that attendees have a comfort- able, relaxed experience, the center offers spa- cious lounges and two complimentary beverage stations located within the executive conference center, providing continuous hot and cold beverages that include assorted gourmet coffees, teas, soft drinks, fruit juices, ice and water. There are no food and beverage minimums, and the center offers optional catering packages to tempt attendees' tastebuds. They can choose from 31 unique gourmet sandwiches to customize a gour- met sandwich buffet feast and enjoy inspirational menus, including Picnic in the South offering Southern fried chicken and homemade buttermilk biscuits with whipped sweet butter or the Day in the Park menu featuring grilled chicken breasts smothered in mesquite BBQ sauce accompanied by Sonoma salad with an acacia honey and hazel- nut vinaigrette, just to name a few of the culinary delights that await attendees. SPARKING COASTAL CREATIVITY Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. Host of the 2021 PGA Championship, Kiawah Island Golf Resort provides a luxurious sanctuary along the South Carolina coast, complete with sea breezes to stir the senses. The resort is experi- encing a renaissance renovation, including a new conference center expected to open in 2019. "We discovered with the latest economic recovery that we had the opportunity to host larger groups than our existing conference center had the capacity to host," said Public Relations Director Bryan Hunter. "As part of a resort-wide transformation that will include, among other building projects, a new 150-room full-service luxury beachfront hotel, we decided the time was ripe to update our conference facilities. The primary considerations are creating a best-in-class facility that offered the latest technology with enough flexible space to comfortably host the size groups we're targeting." The transformation is set to spark coastal creativity with the conference center located within the West Beach Village. "The new West Beach Conference Center will be built in a newly revitalized West Beach Village, designed by the preeminent architectural firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York. The village will be compact and pedestrian friendly but with our ex- cellent shuttle service, the conference center will also be convenient to other island amenities such as the existing five-star Sanctuary Hotel and Spa, more than 500 rental villas and homes, our five championship golf courses, our top-ranked tennis center and our other outstanding recreational and outdoors offerings, not to mention it will be only several hundred yards from our magnificent beach," he said. The West Beach Village Conference Center is slated to open in fall 2019, with the resort already accepting RFPs to book new meetings, accord- ing to Hunter. In addition, a new villa check-in will open at the same time as the center, and the Cougar Point Clubhouse, featuring a large sports tavern, will open in spring 2019. The new hotel will open in the fourth quarter of 2020, "in time for us to host the PGA Championship at The Ocean Course in May 2021," said Hunter. "Kiawah Island Golf Resort has already earned a reputation as a world-class resort that offers award-winning service, lodging and amenities. This new conference center will make an already highly compelling meeting destination even more appealing and it will position Kiawah Island Golf Resort to offer an extremely competitive product well into the future." n AMA's Washington Area Executive Conference Center in Arlington, Va.
