In addition, the Old Salem Historic District maintains and reproduces life in the historic Moravian settlement of Salem. With more than 20 historic buildings, there are four rentable indoor spaces in Old Salem and three outdoor spaces. The area around Winston-Salem is dotted with more than two dozen vineyards and wineries, many of which offer modestly sized indoor meet- ing spaces and spacious outdoor grounds. The upgraded 105,000-square-foot convention center recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation and new meeting and event venues. (See Breakout Spotlight on page 54.) Winston-Salem Venues • Benton Convention Center: 105,000 square feet of meeting space; 46,008-square- foot ballroom; 18 meeting rooms; two hotels attached by skyway • Embassy Suites by Hilton Winston-Sa- lem: 55,000 square feet of meeting space; 146 guest rooms • Winston-Salem Marriott: 14,000 square feet of meeting space; 315 guest rooms • Millennium Center: 72,000-square-foot venue; 150-person capacity patio • Graylyn International Conference Cen- ter: 15,000 square feet of meeting space; 86 guest rooms • Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts: 13,200 square feet of event space; 244-seat theater • Wake Forest Biotech Place Conference Center: 10,000-square-foot facility; 120-seat auditorium; 7,500-square-foot atrium • R.J. Reynolds Auditorium: 35,000-square- foot facility; 1,900-seat theater Asheville Asheville is a great meetings destination for small to mid-size meetings. The new nine-story, 132- room AC Hotel features a rooftop restaurant and bar, and 2,000 square feet of meeting space. The 12-story, 136-room Cambria Downtown Ashe- ville offers 7,440 square feet of meeting space in a ballroom, boardroom and hospitality suites. Asheville can provide more than 8,000 hotel rooms and the number is increasing. Slated for completion by late this year are a four-star Hotel Arras in downtown Asheville's tallest building and the upscale Asheville Foundry Inn, a Curio Collection property by Hilton. "Asheville's breathtaking views of the highest peaks in the East, incredible food scene with more than 250 independent restaurants and over 30 craft breweries, outdoor adventure opportuni- ties and free-spirited vibe have lured visitors for years," said Dianna Pierce, vice president of sales for Explore Asheville. "With a recent construc- tion boom adding numerous hotels, this mountain oasis has even more choices for conference and incentive planners. Asheville's crown jewels, Biltmore and the Omni Grove Park Inn, are also adding premium event spaces that show off the surrounding landscape, creating more opportuni- ties for meeting planners to impress attendees in this Blue Ridge Mountain destination." The Biltmore Estate is opening a new meeting venue later this year. The Amherst at Deerpark will add 11,000 square feet of meeting space to Biltmore's more than 35,000 square feet that are already available.
